Dr. Michael J. Schmalz is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Schmalz's special interest lies in hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases and he has written many articles pertaining to these diseases. He is a member of numerous professional societies including: The American Gastroenterological Association; the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy; the American College of Gastroenterology; the Wisconsin State Medical Society; and the Racine County Medical Society. He also holds positions on various professional committees including Chief of Endoscopy at St. Mary's Medical Center, Racine, Wisconsin and Fellow-American College of Gastroenterology. He was recently named Chairman of the Section of Gastroenterology at St. Luke's Medical Center. Dr. Schmalz has also been chosen as one of the "The Best Doctors in America" and his name has appeared in that publication.
Dr. Schmalz enjoys speaking to people on the community level. He wants people to be informed regarding their GI health. He was spoken to various community groups on such subjects as irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal bleeding, and a common complaint, heartburn. He also travels throughout the country and speaks to his peers professionally regarding the most current treatments and procedures available today in treating patients who suffer from gastrointestinal illness.
Dr. Schmalz received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University. He earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Dr. Schmalz is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
